History According to Bob: The Blog

I am Professor Bob, otherwise know as Bob Packett. I have been podcasting history for fourteen years this past march 2017 and have covered a wide variety of topics as you can see if you go to the website and check out the CD’s topic list. With the advent of my new website I decided it might be fun to try doing a blog. One of the issues I have with blogs is they frequently become rants on politics and other subjects so I first want to assure you this is NOT what I intend to do. What I am going to try and do is talk about the various shows that are coming up and give you information on the sources I use. I may talk about some new historical or archaeological discovery or suggest some magazines or magazine articles that might be of interest to you. From time to time I will put up a cartoon or a photograph   of something that my wife Sheri and I have photographed on our vacations that might be of interest. My intention is to stay on the subject of history and be as factual and interesting as possible. I may try to debuke some crazy historical objects or theories also from time to time.

I have spent my life teaching history; 30 years of teaching history at Park Hill High School here in Kansas City and 27 years of teaching as an adjunct Professor at Maple Woods Community College which is part of the Metropolitan Community Colleges of Kansas City. Now I must explain that if you add up my teaching years I am either 80 years old or I was a prodigy at the age of 10. The truth is I started teaching at the community college in 1990 at night then in 2005, when I retired from park Hill, I stayed at the community.  So I am  just 65 years old, not a decrepit old fossil. If you have been listening to me and have seen some of the covers of the CD’s you know I like to dress up in military equipment that I use in my classroom demonstrations, this is why I chose to use a picture of me in a nice evening outfit with one of my Napoleonic shakos; the photo was taken in my library. I hope you have enjoyed this introduction to my first blog and the others that will be coming throughout the year.
